When Returning to a Routine Feels Overwhelming Summer often gives us permission to loosen our schedules, stay up later, travel, spend more time outside, and take life at a slightly slower pace. Then September arrives. Work becomes busier. School begins. Children’s activities return. Calendars fill up, mornings start earlier, and responsibilities that felt distant suddenly demand our attention. If you are struggling to get back into a routine, please do not mistake that struggle for laziness or failure. Your mind and body are simply adjusting to a change of pace. You do not have to reorganize your entire life in one day. Start with one small “anchor”—something simple you can do at approximately the same time each day. It might be waking up at a consistent hour, preparing tomorrow’s clothes the night before, taking a short morning walk, or spending ten quiet minutes with your coffee before checking your phone. Once that feels comfortable, add something else. Try choosing only three important tasks each day. Everything does not have to be completed immediately, and every request does not deserve equal urgency. Give your energy to what truly matters and allow the rest to wait. Most importantly, be patient with yourself. A routine is supposed to support your life—not make you feel trapped by it. You are not falling apart. You are adjusting. Take one small step today, another tomorrow, and trust that your rhythm will return. — Auntie Elara
